Fear Not, Little Flock

I'm jumping on today to write down a few thoughts from the first half of Luke 12. As I was reading it this week I felt convicted to lay my thoughts out and I pray that they may be encouraging to you!
Verse 2 states, "For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known."
This verse convicted me in this way; no matter what I think I may be hiding from the world or even from God, it will be revealed in this life or the next. He knows my heart, my innermost thoughts and ultimately he will reveal all in his time. So why do I try and hide?
Verse 7 states, "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows."
We are valued. The conviction in verse 2 of God knowing everything felt like such reassurance in this verse. He knows the very number of hairs on my head and he VALUES them! He values me, much more than the ordinary bit of creation!
Verses 8-12 are a command to be wary of our hearts and the way we speak of the Son of God. I especially love verse 12, "For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”
As someone who struggles to witness, I find so much comfort in this verse. The Holy Spirit is a great gift and it is with its help that God works through me!
I think most Christians are familiar with the parable of the rich man who tore down his barns to build greater and what it cost him. This next section reminds us of the hazard of placing too high of a priority on worldly goods and goals. Jesus reminds us in verse 21&34 to store up our treasures in heaven, because those who don't are not rich towards God. #convicting
Verses 22-31 are what I want to focus on mostly. This section possesses one of my favorite verses (32) and also holds so many truths that as an anxious person, I cling to.
Verse 25-26 read, "And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest?"
This last statement gets me, what does worry accomplish? Nothing. It simply pulls our trust from God and places it on ourselves, which is a completely fruitless act. In Matthew 6 there is a similar passage exhorting us to relinquish worry and remember that the Father knows what we need and will provide for us!
Matthew 6:32-34 "For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."
My point from this section is that worry is a sin and it gains us nothing. Turn that worry over to God and trust him with all your cares and needs!
Verse 32-34 hold so much comfort for me and I hope you can find some in them too.
“Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom...For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
We have no need to fear what life may bring because God desires to grant us the kingdom, so much so that he sent Jesus to be a bridge for us to cross into heaven. 1 Timothy 2:5 describes Jesus as just that, a mediator between us and God! How incredible that God desires us so much that he would give up his only son for us! (John 3:16, a classic)
So what's my overarching point? Rest in the fact that God knows. The good, the bad, the ugly. He knows our future, he knows our desires and wants, he knows our insecurities and he values us anyways. He knows what we need and he gives us that through his Son, through his Spirit. You name it, God knows it. What peace there is in that fact!
There is so much more in the rest of this chapter that I could dive into, but in an effort to keep this post relatively short I'll leave it at that! As always I hope my thoughts may be of some encouragement to you!
