Acoustic Lifestyle

Last week I was in the Bahamas for spring break, and it was amazing.

But that’s not what this post is about. While in the Bahamas I had no service on my phone because of being in a different country. I had expected that, like most hotels and resorts, Atlantis would have WiFi access for people staying there. Boy was I wrong. WiFi ended up being a very expensive commodity that my family decided to do without. I had a moment of panic as I thought of going without my precious IPhone for a week  and then I kind of shook myself. I don’t NEED my phone, for anything, it’s just something that is constantly glued to my hand. I realized just how often I open my phone just to open it, and start scrolling mindlessly through different social media platforms.

Last week I lived what I’m calling an “acoustic lifestyle.” I was totally present in every way, during every activity, all day every day. I loved it because it was so peaceful. I felt like I could think and breathe and that I had so much more time on my hands. I traded my phone for a camera and realized I love taking pictures. I traded the scrolling time for time with my family. I traded the last minute checking of my phone every night for quiet time with the Lord.

In every aspect the “acoustic lifestyle” was beautiful and eye-opening. People in this day and age are so wrapped up in the little device in their hand that they are missing so much of their lives! It seems like we can’t live our lives without them, but we can and we should. As I stepped off my last plane, my eyes were glued to my phone. What had I missed? Snapchat? Instagram? Text messages? These 3 things consume a lot more time than I’d like to admit, but all of these things are relative in this day and age, but I do find them unnecessary. There are so many awesome ways to use smart phones and please don’t think that I’m bashing them. What I’m trying to get across is that living without a phone glued to your hand is possible and peaceful.

So here’s a little piece of what’s been rolling around in my head this past week:)
