“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.” Psalms 62:5-6

Psalm 62 is one of my all time favorite Psalms. It is chalk full of amazing verses that have really helped me on days when I am feeling down. And honestly, as I go into the holiday season, I do feel a bit down. This holiday season I can’t seem to get in the right head space to celebrate, I just feel like I have so much to do and I have so much going on that I don’t have time to take a few days off. But because of those feelings, I am super glad that I am forced  to spend a day with family thinking about what I am grateful for. I am so blessed and I often overlook that fact. Everything I have in my life is from God above and I am thankful for the fact that there is a day set aside to be thankful.

This year one of the biggest things I am thankful for is hope. I know that may sound funny but it’s true. Through all the chaos of my life I have this steadfast and sure hope, an eternal hope. I find myself in situations where hope is the best possible feeling and I am reveling in this tiny shred of it that I have. Hope is just one of the many gifts God has provided for us and I really am thankful for it this year.

So often in my life I find myself thanking God for the material things – and please don’t misunderstand me, it’s good to be thankful for those things – but I am realizing that probably 90% of the time I forget to thank God for things like hope, grace, mercy, and love to name a few. I forget to say thank-you to the One who gave me this life and who gave me eternal joy and peace. This year I am learning to be thankful in a different way and I hope I continue to constantly learn new ways to show gratitude, in all areas of my life.

“And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us.”    2 Corinthians 1:7&10
