1 Corinthians 6:20 “You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
You are not your own. Every single part of you, mind, body, soul – even your time – belongs to God. How are we using our time? Are we using it for ourselves? To do whatever pleases us? Or are we using the valuable time that we have on this earth for God?
It is MY time. To do whatever I want. This way of thinking is wrong. You are NOT your own. Your time is GOD’S time. We are only given a small amount of time on this earth and none of us use that time wisely enough. There are 24 hours in a day, 60 minutes in an hour, therefore there are 1,440 minutes in a day. How many of those precious minutes are you devoting to yourself instead of to him? The answer is too many. God has given us the exact amount of time to do everything that he wants us to so the question is what are we adding in that is taking up time that should be his? Everyday we wake up thinking we didn’t get enough sleep and now we have to go to school or work whichever it may be, and then we spend all day there and come home and are drained and have homework and dinner to make and family to be with and who knows what else and by the time you crawl into bed and the thought of spending some quality time in the Word comes to mind we tend to shake it off and say we will do better tomorrow. But tomorrow never comes. It is ALWAYS tomorrow and never today.
I don’t have ENOUGH time. This statement follows the end of the previous paragraph rather well. The thing is, you have to MAKE time. You may think that with your busy schedule that you are being honest with yourself when you say you don’t have enough time but that is a lie that satan is feeding you to keep you away from the Lord. MAKE TIME. If you make time for God, if you sacrifice other things so that you spend quality time with him everyday, HE WILL REWARD YOU! A big part of making time for him is getting rid of unnecessary things that tend to take over our lives. How much of your day is spent looking at a screen? (for example) Away from work and school that is. How much time are you spending looking at your phone (social media I’m talking about you) how much time do you spend watching TV? One hour of screen time a day is detrimental to a infant/young child’s brain development. The same is true for christians. One hour of screen time a day is detrimental to the christians spiritual development. Our heads should be with HIM, not focused on the newest TV shows and the news and all those other worldly things. Make time for him in your day, a time that you are always available and never let that time be taken over by anything OTHER than your Savior. He must be a priority, a relationship with him MUST take priority.
God is the perfect time manager. As always, we could learn a lot from him, especially in this area. We have to remember day to day that our lives, our time, all of it is in his hands. Most of our lives are going to be spent living in the revealed will of God, i.e. school, work etc. Its those unknowns that we humans have trouble with. We have to trust God and trust his timing. If we want to do something God honoring and we can’t fit it in, trust God, he will give us the desires of our hearts. God knows the desires of our hearts, and he will bring them to be in his timing. We have to be patient, one of the hardest things for us to be. Make time for him and he will reward you!
All things work together for good of those who love God Romans 8:28
