Sim·plic·i·ty
noun something that is ordinary, easy to understand, uncomplicated.
A couple mornings this week I’ve eaten breakfast and read my Bible outside. The patio is surrounded by plants; potted and in the garden just a few feet away. In the quiet of the morning I heard a buzzing and at first was terrified because I thought it was a wasp. It wasn’t, it was a fuzzy little bumblebee going from flower to flower on the begonia’s, pollinating them. I was struck by this little bee and how it faithfully went to each flower doing the job God created it for. It brought some funny thoughts to mind, and I know they aren’t necessarily accurate, but hey.
This bee was working hard; continually, consistently, and efficiently, never seeming to be distracted from its God-ordained job. It made me think about the simplicity of life, and how I dramatize and stress about every little thing in life. This bee never looked at all the other flowers and complained that there were just too many and it just couldn’t be done. It continuously worked in the job God created it for.
Life isn’t meant to be easy, but it also isn’t meant to be a stress-filled, anxiety fest wherein we do nothing but be afraid. Over 80 times in the Bible it says “Fear not” and speaking for myself, there is a lot I am afraid of. I think the beauty of simplicity is that in a Christian’s life, that simplicity revolves entirely around God, and having an honest trust in Him.
“Fear not, for I am with you always, even unto the end of the age”
I watched this bumblebee intently for probably five minutes, completely captivated by it. The most amazing part to me was that it was doing what God created it for in a complete way. There are people in life with whom I do the same. I have been transfixed by someone’s life and how they are living it; with confidence, grace, and trust in the God who saved them. In life, we are given choices and although the Bible doesn’t tell us which university to go to or whom to marry, it is full of principles and guidelines to help us on our way. We were created for a purpose, and I KNOW I get lost in the meaningless things that are a part of everyday life.
The point of all this buzz, is that life is simple. Glorify God in all that you do, put others first, and follow the path God has laid before you. Be like the bumblebee, work faithfully, never complaining or faltering, continuing steadfastly on for God.
